Beginnings

Hey everyone Dan here. First off welcome to PB&J Crafts. Ive had the idea behind this site for a while but between life and work it just hasn’t been a priority. So how did we get here?

My crafting journey started almost a year ago. I had purchased Jessica a Woobles kit for Christmas because she had interest in Crochet. She had attempted to follow the kit but ultimately the process of counting stitches was not her thing. About a year went by and the kit sat on the shelf and in prepping for our yearly yard sale that we do to for the other side of PB&J which is our homeschool co-op, she said she was going to put the kit in the yard sale. I asked her if she didn’t mind if I tried to do it.

So there I sat at our kitchen table one weekend. The magic circle that Woobles puts in the kit had somehow become undone at some point so I sat there for 30 minutes trying to figure out how to make a magic circle. I tried and failed multiple times to make one. Then once I got it I started following the directions for the pattern. I would eventually screw up and have to back out my stitches but because of the aforementioned magic ring issue I had to once again open YouTube to figure out how to make the magic ring. Eventually I got the hang of it. The end result was not the prettiest but I had made a shark.

It was enough to get me hooked though. I next tried my hands at other crochet items. I made a couple scarves and a hat. Making clothing items didn’t spark joy in me though. What did spark joy was making Amigurumi. The process of making small parts of animals and hearing Jessica say “I dont see how that is going to be an X.” followed up by it coming together and it becoming one of the creatures you see for sale on this site.

I owe what creations are currently on here to makers such as Nicole Chase (thenicolechase.com), DIY Fluffies (mariskavos.nl), Stitch by Fay (stitchbyfay.com), and many others from various Amigurumi books that I have on the shelf. Its been about a year now since I made that shark and he will never be sold. I did remake that pattern with a different yarn and about 6 months of experience under my belt and it came out much better but this little guy will always be my first crochet project.

So whats next?

I want to start giving back to the community that has inspired me to start this first and foremost. I plan to use this blog as a place to begin making my own creations. My own policy will be the same as the creators mentioned above. If you find a pattern on this site feel free to use it to make and sell in limited quantities. All I ask is that you give credit back to me as a creator. I plan to publish patterns free on the site as I have time to make them. If you want to support me, with the features of this site I plan on selling a PDF of any pattern you like for a minimal fee.

I did make my very first creation this Halloween but admitedly did not make a pattern. It was completely free hand. Its not for sale but I am proud of it. I hope that this is my next beginning.

As a final note. Me and Jessica also have been doing 3D printing as a side gig and we will also sell those here. Please visit the store page to see what we have available.
